"The Process Of Reborning"

When reborning a doll I begin with a standard pink vinyl kit. It takes many layers of paint to add the veining and achieve the various flesh tones and blush tones and to add eyebrows and detail all the little bumps and creases. I use Genesis Heat Set Paints so after each layer it needs to be baked so the paint can be dried and cured. After all the painting is done I manicure every finger and toe nail and gloss the lips just a touch. I add a very high gloss to the corners of the mouth and eyes to give the affect of moisture. Of course every baby is different and the possibilities are endless when it comes to the detail work. The hair is hand rooted, one to two hairs at a time with a special needle. This is an extremely time cosuming process but the results are amazing. I use only premium angora mohair on my babies. The hair is sealed from the inside with a waterproof glue so the hair can be dampened and carefully styled. I place a very strong earth magnet inside the head at the mouth area so that I can add a pacifier as a prop. I also use them at the top of the head on some of the baby girls and make a magnetic bow. This eliminating the need to pull on the hair too much to attach a standard bow. After the glue sets and drys the last part of the process is to assemble the baby. I use a Doe Suede cloth body and weight it with glass beads and polly pellets to give the weight of a real newborn baby. The rest of the body is filled with Polyfil for softness. Now the real fun begins "shopping"!! It is now time to find the cutest little outfit and accessories to complete the creation. Below is a slide show of some of the babies I have created so far. There are also links to the babies that are currently available, check back often as I will update after each new creation.
